A press release from Viva Slough on partnership work at Langley Pavilion. A tired community centre has been transformed into a vibrant, welcoming space as Viva Slough, Dulux (AkzoNobel), and Slough Borough Council officially unveil the new Langley Pavilion makeover and mural on 9 December (2–4 pm). This is the first significant step in a long-term vision to revitalise all eight of Slough’s underused community centres, turning them into hubs of connection, creativity, and wellbeing. Langley Pavilion — previously described by residents as looking "like a GP waiting room" — has now been brought to life through colour, art, and community collaboration. “Slough’s community centres are one of the town’s greatest untapped assets,” said Vineet Vijh, Director of Viva Slough. “By filling them with colour, art, and life, we are creating places where people feel proud to visit — spaces that uplift wellbeing, bring neighbours together, and strengthen the social fabric of our town.” A Mural Rooted in Slough’s Heritage, designed by local artist Jho (Johana Plazas), the mural blends the earthly and the cosmic: a young local girl is the face of Slough’s latest landmark. The mural symbolises belonging, imagination, and discovery. The smiling young Slough girl and the iconic Dulux dog bookend a swirling rainbow of colour that flows into a distant planet — a nod to Slough’s scientific heritage as the home of William Herschel, discoverer of Uranus. It celebrates Slough’s unique heritage as the birthplace of the world’s first Dulux plant. The imagery creates a sense of motion, optimism, and connection. “This mural reflects the joy, creativity, and spirit of the community,” said Jho. “Painting alongside residents made this project incredibly meaningful — it’s a piece created with them and for them.” Dulux supported the initiative by funding the entire project, including donations of all paint and equipment. A large team of Dulux Corporate Volunteers spent four Tuesdays working side-by-side with 10 Slough residents to reinvent the Pavilion. Together, they brought the message to life: Let’s Colour Our Community. “We believe colour has the power to inspire, uplift, and transform how people feel about their surroundings,” said Becky Orton, Marketing & Partnerships Manager at Dulux. “Working shoulder-to-shoulder with residents to reimagine Langley Pavilion has been a privilege — and a reminder of what’s possible when communities and companies collaborate.” Slough Borough Council has welcomed the initiative as a model for future community regeneration. Councillor Ejaz Ahmed, lead member for communities, sport, leisure and public protection, said: “This project shows exactly what happens when creativity, partnership, and community meet. Langley Pavilion has gone from ordinary to extraordinary — it’s now a beacon of pride, colour, and possibility for Slough. “It forms part of the wider partnership works in Langley for the Safer Langley initiative. The aim is to make Langley a safer and more pleasant place to be and there is more to come to build community resilience.” Launch event Tuesday 9 December, from 2-4pm All residents, families, community groups and media are warmly invited to attend. The iconic Dulux dog will form part of the celebration, and the young girl featured on the mural will cut the ribbon. Dignitaries from Slough Borough Council and other arts organisations will be present at this launch.
